Our first flood

For the past few days, Chiang Mai has been badly flooded from heavy rainfall up north which caused the Ping River to overflow. The last major flood was in 2005. As we live very close to the river, we were surrounded by water waist deep for a couple of days with sporadic electricity and no internet. We were completely safe living on the 8th floor but we feel very sorry for the locals who have had their shops/ restaurants damaged from the water.

Thankfully, the water has gone down and the clean up has begun. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

The main road where we live off with a sign warning motorists.

It didn't stop too many people until they got further down
the road and they had to turn around again.

Our street the next day.

The main road was completely submerged!

Our condominium had a boat which we took
to get to dry land so we could do some essential food shopping

The sight was quite unbelievable!

'Transport du jour'

It didn't stop some of the kids from having some fun though!

  3. Oh Dear, that's no good at all. WE are in Khao Lak at the moment and there's been a lot of rain but the area seems to be coping well, hope things improve soon!

  4. Certainly an adventure Belinda - that's for sure.

Nat - fortunately no cleaning up on our part, just the poor shop/ restaurant owners. But it was done in no time.

Greg - hope it stops raining at Khao Lak. Haven't been there yet but heard lots of good things
